What else? Words . . .

I guess this is my pet peeve of the month or I just have to stop reading the order board at school. Today's specials are buger buns, cuccumbers, and from the reference menu, slouvaki. I thought at first the "slouvaki" was a mere typo but it appears in at least 3 different places spelled that way. Maybe I am just confused and there is another Greek lamb dish that starts with "s" and ends in "aki"?

  • Here's a question ... when these people graduate and they go on job interviews, will the interviewers care that they can't spell? For example, if they put together a sample menu or something and it says "Slouvaki with Greke salad, which includes cuccombors and tomatoes"? I know that I would never hire someone who couldn't spell the food they're cooking, but that's me. Is the restaurant industry more forgiving?

  • I've been wondering that myself. It seems it may be a more forgiving industry since it was our instructor who spelled souvlaki wrong. Luckily, his assistant can spell, so it was right on the school menu.

If you want to see some really bad spelling or at least bad/no editing, I'll lend you one of my learning guides next time you are up. Those things are positively scary!
